Subculture : social, ethnic, regional, economic group that presents specific behaviors that distinguish it from other members of a wider society or culture.
Neo-nazism in Poland.
Neo-nazism consists of militant social or political movements after World War II that seek to revive and implement the ideology of Nazism. A report showing the cult of Nazism has generated outrage in Poland, where an investigation has been ordered to determine whether there is any advocacy of fascism among the ultra-right members appearing on the tape.
The investigation was requested by the Ministry of Justice after the broadcast yesterday of the documentary, broadcast by the channel TVN24 and showing the cult to the Nazism of a group of extreme Polish right, which even goes to celebrate the birthday of Adolf Hitler in a forest, between flaming swastikas and Nazi banners.
The ruling party in Poland, the nationalist force Law and Justice, has today called on the authorities to intervene to stop the activities of neo-Nazi groups and has called for a parliamentary debate to address the radicalism of some collectives in Polish society.
According to the Polish Constitution, promoting any totalitarian system such as Nazism and fascism (as well as communism) and inciting violence and/or racial hatred is illegal. This was further reinforced in the Polish Penal Code, where the discredit of any group or persons on national, religious, racial or religious grounds carries a sentence of 3 years.
Although there are several small right-wing and anti-Semitic organisations, including the Polish National Restoration and the Radical National Camp (which exist legally), they often adhere to Polish nationalism, and Nazism is generally considered to be against ultra-nationalist principles. Thus, although they are classified as nationalist and fascist movements, at the same time they are considered anti-Nazi. Some of its elements may resemble neo-Nazi features, but these groups often dissociate themselves from the Nazi elements, claiming that such acts are not patriotic and arguing that Nazism misappropriated or slightly altered several pre-existing symbols and characteristics, how to distinguish the Roman salute from the Nazi salute.96
The self-declared neo-Nazi movements in Poland often treat Polish culture and traditions with contempt, are anti-Christian and translate various German texts, which means that they are considered to be pro-German movements.97
According to several researches by reporters, the Polish government turns a blind eye to these groups and is free to spread their ideology, often dismissing their existence as conspiracy theories, discarding provocative political acts, considering them too insignificant to pose a threat or attempting to justify or diminish the seriousness of their actions
Hip-Hop in Poland.
Hip hop in Poland emerged in the early 1990s, when American rappers like MC Hammer and Vanilla Ice were popular within the Polish music scene. Great rappers like Liroy, O.S.T.R., Sokół and musical groups like Paktofonika, Mor W.A. or Sistars have been crowned as some of the Polish artists with the highest number of sales in Poland’s music charts.1 2 3 Currently Polish hip hop enjoys great popularity in Europe and especially in Eastern Europe.
History
The first studio album to incorporate Polish rap songs was East on the Mic by Liroy, including two songs in his native language. Piotr Liroy, then known as PM Cool Lee, was originally from Kielce. Hip hop in Poland was reinforced by the creation of the Kolor Shock radio programme, which broadcast daily from Warsaw great US rap hits. The broadcast was conducted by Bogna Świątkowska, Paul Jackson, Sylvia Opoku and DJ Volt. The latter, a member of the IKHZ band, would found the first Polish record label fully dedicated to Polish hip hop, Beat Records. The hip hop scene in Warsaw introduced bands like Trzyha and Molesta. In Poznań, the rapper PH Kopalnia published his album Polski Rap – Zakazane Piosenki. That same year Liroy would release his album Alboom, which included the success «Scyzoryk» (1995). Probably the most recognized Polish hip hop band outside the country is WWO, composed of Sokół, Jędker and DJ Deszczu Strugi. In the mid-2000s, the genre grew stronger, with the emergence of new rappers such as Popek, Donatan and Taco Hemingway.
Power distance: This dimension deals with the fact that all individuals in societies are not equal: it expresses the attitude of culture towards these inequalities between us. I think that Colombia is one of the most unequal countries, therefore this distance of power is much more marked than in a European country, with different traditions and lifestyles.
Individualism: The fundamental issue addressed by this dimension is the degree of interdependence that a society maintains among its members. I think that in this sense we Colombians are much more dependent on our relatives, but we are even much more dependent on people in public or «political» positions, this sense is much more rooted in the population of scarce resources, On the contrary, I think that Poland has much better welfare or people live better and do not need so much political actors, so I think that Poles are more individualistic than Colombians.
Masculinity: A high (male) score in this dimension indicates that society will be driven by competition, achievement and success, and success will be defined by the winner / best in the field, a value system that begins at school and continues throughout organizational life. I think that Colombian society has a higher score than Polish on this aspect, I think Colombians are more focused on achieving their own personal goals (even being much more attached) that a Pole, I think Polish society is more feminine in that sense, share more achievements.
AVOIDANCE OF THE UNCERTAINTY :The Avoid Uncertainty dimension has to do with how a society deals with the fact that the future can never be known: should we try to control the future or just let it happen? This ambiguity brings with it anxiety and different cultures have learned to deal with this anxiety in different ways. Colombia is not usually one of those countries that takes into account the future in terms of the economy, but in my opinion Colombia is more related to being a country that does not plan its future but leaves everything to chance, on the other hand Poland seems to be a country that has much more controlled the future, thinking much more about the economic aspects to come.
Long Term Orientation: This dimension describes h ow every society has to maintain some links with its own past in dealing with the challenges of the present and future , and societies prioritize these two existential objectives in a different way. I think that Colombia has a way of thinking related to Europeans, in the sense that it is not that Colombians are interested in maintaining links with the past, What is more, we see it exposed when most people want to end traditions such as corralejas or bullfighting, and Poland, being a European country, is directly related to this thought.
Indulgence: This dimension is defined as the extent to which people try to control their desires and impulses. We Colombians live as if there were no tomorrow, we follow much our impulses, we are much happier and optimistic and we spend the money without thinking about tomorrow or at least that is my opinion, On the contrary, I believe that Poles are more governed by thinking about their future and are not as optimistic or as happy as we are.
I believe that the culture of Poland is more related to the linear active, because many European cultures are more related to those characteristics, as for example the schedules must be very rigid, I think they may be people who are not so open when it comes to talking, perhaps as if they were a multi active person.
Investigation:
The following blog defines what Poles are like in terms of their personality and says the following: From my point of view, Poles relate in a more formal way. Distances exist and respect each other’s personal space. They are not as open as we are (that we are able to tell our life or problems to a stranger, regardless of whether he is interested or not) but gossips are just like us. They are not so scandalous: in restaurants you can talk calmly and you can even hear the music in the background; on public transport there is usually no music, and the radio is not played. ( El Carácter polaco. http://polskeando.blogspot.com/2010/10/el-caracter-polaco.html)
What problems a person from that culture might come across if they were to do a study abroad here in Barranquilla and why in relation to the model.
Colombians in general are more related to the category of multi active person, because generally we do not follow strict schedules, many times we shout when we speak in public, usually we do not follow an order to speak but rather we all speak at the same time, in many cases the lives of the people usually matter to us, but this characteristic is more related to the Barranquilleros, in addition to what mentioned above in the public transport of barranquilla if we have radio, in restaurants and bars you hear loud music and everyone shouts so it is difficult to speak a little, so you would think that Poles would have «problems» when it comes to making an esudio aca, they would have to make an analysis of the culture where they want to come to study, because the above characteristics are to be found in most people.
What kind of influence do the Catholic Church have in the polish society?
Gender roles in Poland and Colombia
Gender roles shape how men and women should act or behave on society and what kind of actions or situations are normalize in their dynamics. Poland gender roles are unique because of the role that Communism has played over the years and that there is an evident gap between men and women in the polish society. The Catholic Church and the government have been driving anti-gender ideas such demonizing women’s rights and wanting to bring back traditional roles. Nowadays, women in Poland are facing of disproportionate levels of unemployment. First of all, women earn less than men earn, they are concentrated in the more poorly paid occupations and trades, especially in low paying and low status public sector occupations. In the household, the woman was in charge and made all decisions related to home life and often men are the head of the family. Polish women also claim that their situation is very difficult and to make it better the government needs to take measures against social, political discrimination, improve pensions, establish public day-care centres and promote a decent health network Gender roles in Colombia are more accentuated in society and mostly men are view as the dominant figure and head of the family. Male domination role is immersed in the colombian culture. On the other hand, the view of women is very limited when it comes to work and access to education because they are often encouraged to stay in their homes and play the “wives role”, staying at home and taking care of the children. This has caused a lot of troubles for women such as domestic violence and the colombian justice is not good enough to deal with this problems that have been persistent over the past years.
The intention of this post is to learn about the culture of Poland based on the iceberg model, which is composed of two parts. The first one is what we believe of the Polish culture (the tip of the iceberg) and second one is the true essence of this culture ( the surface of the iceberg).
Gastronomy of Poland. (Food)
Polish cuisine is influenced by Slavic cuisine (from Russia and its neighbours Ukraine and Belarus), German, Turkish, Hungarian, Jewish or French.
Making a summary, in this gastronomy there are prepared strong flavors dishes not directly related to the spicy, but rather in the use of many condiments. The ingredients used by this culture are based on rural life as Poland is a country that lives and works the land. Mostly, they are dishes based on vegetables and producer that are obtained from the earth as radishes, carrots, among others with which are made soups and hearty dishes that allow to endure the winter in this country.
On the other hand, in summer fish is usually eaten fresh, in autumn a lot of house meat and mushrooms are consumed. However, something very characteristic of this culture is tea and beer, which are generally consumed in large baskets.
Typical or National Costume of Poland. (Dress)
The typical costume or national costume is the dress that expresses the cultural identity of a region, people, culture or nation. For a long time, Poland was influenced by different cultures leaving its mark in particular on the national costumes of its people. In the Polish, Lithuanian, Romanian, Russian, Austrian and other national costumes they combined skillfully and harmoniously, making it unique and special. Typical Polish traditional costumes vary from region to region, but are often brightly coloured and highly decorated.
Religious Beliefs.
Poland has no official religion, but the majority of the population belongs to the Roman Catholic Apostolic Church. Approximately 90% of Poles are Roman apostolic Catholics. Yet 58 per cent of the total population actively practised their religious beliefs. The rest of the population belongs to the Orthodox Church (about 509,500), are Greek Catholics (123,000), are Jehovah’s Witnesses (about 122,757) and are Lutherans-Augsburg (about 87,300). Other Christian denominations include the Baptists, the Church of Christ, the Old Catholic Church of the Mariavites, the Methodists, the New Apostolic Church, the Pentecostals, the Polish-Catholics, the Reformed Lutherans and the Seventh-day Adventists. There are about 5,200 members of the Muslim Religious Union and approximately 5,100 Hare Krishnas. More than 60% of Poles go to church regularly.
Views on raising children.
The Polish culture is mostly machista, because men are the ones who make the important decisions within the family, however the woman is the one who has control over the decisions concerning the home, the food that is consumed daily, among other things, but the most important is the raising of children. Women are the ones who decides the childrens value to raise them properly.

Porque proporciona contexto a los nuevos lectores. ¿A qué te dedicas?
